None of us knows if we might be interested in this fascinating form of flight until we give it a try the first time. After the flight you can decide if trike flying is something you might like to pursue. You are making no commitment to further instruction by taking a Discovery flight.
If you do decide to pursue your Light Sport Pilot's License Rosie Air can continue your training.
Yes. The Cygnet amphibious trike is built in America to strict FAA standards. It is an “N” numbered Special Light Sport Aircraft. We only fly when conditions will provide the smoothest possible flight. Safety first.
We recommend you wear clothing that is comfortable for the day and keep in mind it is always slightly cooler in the air than on the ground. Bring some type of sunglasses as we are flying in an open air cockpit. Just imagine being on a motorcycle in the air. If you forget glasses that's ok, we will have some for you. No loose articles (ie. “flip flops”) are allowed as we must be concerned that nothing is dropped from the aircraft.
This area allows for flying comfortably nearly 8 months out of the year. Summers offer shorts-and-shirt-sleeve flying, but as we are coming out of winter or into winter (fall time) a sweatshirt, beanie cap, and or jacket may be required. Keep in mind it is slightly cooler once in the air. In order to fly in smooth air we generally limit our flying day to the first three hours after sunrise and the last three hours before sunset. We can schedule your flight for a weekend or during the week.
You must be at least 12 years old. Those under the age of 18 will need the signed approval of both guardians using our waiver form.
We are able to fly with students that weigh 275 pounds or less.
Trikes are flown only on fair-weather days. We can fly with students in smooth winds up to 10 or 12 mph, but not when storm clouds are present or when frontal systems are nearby. We never take chances with the weather!
On your first flight we will generally fly around 500 feet above the ground (Land) or we might climb up to 2,000 feet to get a better view depending on conditions and your comfort level. Much of our flight over the lake will be anywhere from just a few feet over the water to around 300 feet as I have found is the most fun. As far as the aircraft's capability it can fly much higher as I have been up to 10,000 ft myself.
The trike you will fly with Rosie Air cruises at about 45- 50 mph, with a maximum airspeed of about 60 - 65 mph. When buying your own trike you can choose a wing with a cruise speed of 35 mph, up to 80 mph, or even faster!
This is a FAA Certified Special Light Sport Aircraft that requires training and License. If you decide after a Discovery Flight that you are interested in pursuing your certification we can discuss those requirements
If you are a healthy adult, the answer is: absolutely! Learning to fly an aircraft is not one of the instant-gratification endeavors that some people look for. But if you like to learn, and if you have some patience, you will be rewarded with a skill that is second to none in its lifelong rewards. With the help of a certified flight instructor, the dream of flight - once reserved for others - will be yours to savor.
Because there are unscrupulous attorney’s that will sue for anything they think they can make a buck from. We live in a litigious nation where the legal system has forced everyone to blame the other party for the decisions we make.
The party that always wins every time are the attorneys! If you want to fly with us read the Participation Agreement as it outlines the risks of flying. If you believe the risks are too high, don’t sign the waiver and therefore, you won’t be able to fly!
Remember, we as pilots fly each time with the knowledge of the risks involved and certainly have your safety and enjoyment foremost before any flight begins.
No, safety is our #1 concern when flying and there is always a possibility that someone could drop their camera/phone causing injury to someone beneath us or cause catastrophic damage to our aircraft in the form of items going through the prop, damaging a critical component, etc.
Aside from safety this is a time to live in the moment and enjoy the experience!
But don't worry, cameras capable of photos and video will be mounted for each flight. Click on the tab "Rates" at the top of the page for info on that.
